Chennai, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP has mounted a strong criticism against the DMK administration, accusing it of hindering the lighting of the sacred Karthigai Deepam at the Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple for the sake of political appeasement.

BJP state spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad stated that this action is a breach of constitutional norms and a blatant effort to interfere with Hindu religious customs.

The situation escalated after the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court allowed ten petitioners to light the customary Deepam at the hilltop, ordering the deployment of Central forces to ensure the ritual's smooth execution.

Nonetheless, the DMK government reportedly issued a Section 144 order on misleading grounds, obstructing the lighting of the lamp.

The BJP has charged the government with disregarding the judiciary, labeling the act as serious anarchy motivated by politics.

Prasad also condemned the police's actions in arresting Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran and several Hindu leaders who sought to reach the hilltop.

The BJP asserts that these arrests infringe upon the rights of devotees and underscore a pattern of systematic interference in Hindu worship under the existing administration.

The party further criticized remarks made in Parliament by senior DMK leader T.R. Baalu, deeming them derogatory towards a High Court judge and disrespectful to the Constitution.

Prasad also took issue with DMK MP Kanimozhi for allegedly employing extreme and misleading language regarding the Deepam pillar and the temple's heritage.

Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman faced backlash from the BJP for alleging the government was preventing riots akin to Ayodhya, a statement Prasad described as distorting historical facts and showcasing political allegiance to the DMK.

The BJP urged Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay to clarify his party's position on the matter and to denounce the government's actions.

According to Prasad, prior inter-community peace discussions led to an agreement that the Deepam ritual would not face opposition. Instead of resolving the issue cooperatively, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department allegedly initiated litigation with a political agenda to secure minority votes.

Calling for all parties to voice their opinions, Prasad stated that Tamil Nadu, renowned for its ancient temples and profound spiritual traditions, must reject divisive governance and uphold its legacy of harmonious coexistence.

Point of View

It is essential to examine the broader implications of such actions on religious freedom and community harmony in the region. Engagement from all parties is crucial to maintain the sanctity of spiritual practices and uphold constitutional values.
