Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 23 (NationPress) Following a tumultuous confrontation between the Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the presidential elections of the Satara Zilla Parishad, political tensions have surged into the Maharashtra Assembly.
BJP legislator Sanjay Kelkar has shifted focus onto the operations of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), unveiling a "report card" that highlights alleged mismanagement during discussions held under Proposal 293.
In the State Assembly, Sanjay Kelkar called for a thorough investigation into purported embezzlement within the TMC.
Kelkar stated, "Outstanding dues from builders remain unpaid. Approximately Rs 24 crore is still to be collected from mobile tower companies."
He insisted on a comprehensive audit of the funds allocated to the TMC by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also serves as the State Urban Development Minister and the guardian minister for the Thane district.
Kelkar raised concerns about whether funds had been allocated multiple times for the same project or if invoices were approved for work that was never completed.
"There has been considerable financial misconduct within the Thane Municipal Corporation over the past three years, and this warrants investigation," he emphasized.
For several days, Sanjay Kelkar has been vocal about his concerns regarding TMC's operations, openly criticizing the Shiv Sena's management of the civic body.
During the municipal elections, he noted that the BJP was ready to contest either independently or in an alliance.
Ultimately, the BJP and Shiv Sena contested the Thane municipal elections together as allies.
Allegations have emerged regarding TMC-owned properties and amenity plots handed over by builders.
It is claimed that various organizations occupying these properties are utilizing them for commercial gain.
Recently, Kelkar conferred with Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao to discuss these issues and other civic matters.
Sanjay Kelkar's assertive approach may incite discord within the MahaYuti (the ruling grand alliance) in Thane.
All eyes are now on the Shiv Sena's response to these serious accusations made by their own ally.
Previously, in the State Legislative Council and State Assembly, Shiv Sena Ministers and legislators strongly condemned the alleged assault on Shambhuraj Desai, Satara district guardian minister, during the elections for the President and Vice-President of the Satara Zilla Parishad.
Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde described the situation as a violation of democracy, claiming voters were obstructed from casting their votes.
He, along with other party members, demanded stringent action against those responsible, including District Superintendent of Police D.S. Swamy.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced in the State Assembly that an investigation will be initiated into the incident, assuring action based on the findings.
