New Delhi, Feb 25 (NationPress) Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed his approval of the Rouse Avenue Court’s ruling to impose a life sentence on former Congress MP and convicted individual from the 1984 Sikh riots, Sajjan Kumar.
He criticized the Congress party for its failure to expel Sajjan Kumar despite his convictions in multiple cases, labeling this as a clear indication of the party’s anti-Sikh position.
Sachdeva posed a question to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, inquiring about the reasons behind the party's reluctance to distance itself from a convicted criminal.
He demanded that the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha provide clarity on why the Congress continues to harbor an individual culpable for the massacre of Sikhs.
The Delhi BJP President remarked that the terrifying images of the anti-Sikh violence are still vivid in the memories of people, not only in Delhi but across the nation—during a period when mass murders occurred in broad daylight, while the then Congress regime remained passive.
He expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi for instituting the Special Investigation Team to examine this case, which has culminated in this judgment.
Following the Delhi court's decision to sentence Sajjan Kumar to life imprisonment for the murders of two individuals in Saraswati Vihar during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, numerous BJP leaders have called for a more severe penalty, including the death penalty.
The ruling was delivered by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, who found Sajjan Kumar guilty of murder charges on February 18. This case concerns the slaying of Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh in the wake of the riots.
Rajouri Garden legislator Manjinder Singh Sirsa expressed his gratitude to the court for its verdict but stressed the necessity for a harsher sentence.
"The Congress has committed a profound injustice to the Sikh community by shielding individuals like Sajjan Kumar. Today, the court has rendered a decision that holds him accountable, for which I extend my thanks to the judiciary,” he stated.
“However, I challenge the Congress leaders—Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi—who frequently assert their commitment to justice. Will they advocate for the Sikhs today, or will they perpetuate protection for the culprits of this violence?" he questioned.
BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah, representing Jangpura, voiced his discontent with the sentence given to Sajjan Kumar by the court.
"I demand that Sajjan Kumar face the gallows for his role in the massacre. I also wish to express my gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing the SIT, which has delivered justice after nearly three decades,” he remarked.
