New Delhi, Jan 14 (NationPress) A delegation from the Delhi BJP approached the Election Commission on Tuesday to present documents highlighting purported attempts by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to alter the Delhi mandate.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, along with Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj and senior leader Om Pathak, met with Election Commission officials to accuse AAP of trying to eliminate votes from individuals in the Purvanchal region, offering unfair assistance to certain groups, and unduly influencing the Assembly elections.
BJP leaders Sanket Gupta and Vikram Mittal were also in attendance.
Following the meeting with the Election Commissioners, Sachdeva addressed the press, stating, “We met with the Election Commissioners and provided documents that reveal AAP’s attempts to manipulate Delhi’s mandate.”
“They aim to incite religious tensions and plot to suppress the votes of the underprivileged, laborers, and individuals from Purvanchal. Supporting documents were submitted to the Commission today,” he added.
He noted that “The voter list was frozen on December 23, yet between December 23 and January 6 — a span of just 12-13 days — applications for 5.01 lakh new voters were received in Delhi.
“Among these applicants are individuals aged 70 and 80 years. We have requested the Election Commission to investigate the origin of these new voters,” he stated.
Sachdeva also highlighted discrepancies, mentioning, “Near the Valmiki Temple on Mandir Marg in New Delhi, there are 60 registered votes linked to a Dargah. We have called for an investigation into this. Additionally, we found 250 votes registered under a shelter home, which also requires examination.”
He accused AAP of targeting employees residing in MPs’ residences, who live in government quarters, by submitting applications to delete their votes. The BJP delegation informed the Election Commission about these alleged actions, he said.
“We have demanded an inquiry into all these issues and action against those threatening Purvanchali brothers and sisters or members of the Valmiki community,” he remarked.
The Delhi BJP President criticized former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, stating, “Kejriwal appears comfortable creating his own vote at 5 Firozshah Road or permitting Avadh Ojha’s vote in Delhi, but if Purvanchali brothers or Valmiki community members register as voters, he suddenly raises objections.”
