BJP Conducts Central Election Committee Meeting to Finalize Candidates for Delhi Assembly Elections

New Delhi, Jan 11 (NationPress) The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) convened an essential meeting to finalize the remaining candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled to take place on February 5.

The meeting, held at the BJP headquarters on Friday, featured the presence of significant leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, alongside several prominent leaders from the Delhi BJP.

As per sources, the discussion primarily centered around the remaining seats in Delhi, focusing on finalizing candidates for those specific constituencies.

The stage is set for a competitive election face-off between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the main opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the Congress, the third-largest party in Delhi, is striving to regain its electoral footing.

The BJP is making extensive efforts to reclaim power in Delhi after more than two decades, emphasizing its slogan "Parivartan" (change) and mounting a targeted campaign against the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP over allegations of scams, including the liquor policy case.

To date, the BJP has announced 29 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections, preparing for multi-cornered contests across various seats in the capital.

Kailash Gahlot, who recently left the AAP, claiming that 'political ambitions' have overshadowed the party's commitment to the public, has been nominated from Bijwasan.

In other notable contests, the BJP has nominated Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and Congress's Sandeep Dikshit in New Delhi, Ramesh Bidhuri against CM Atishi and Congress's Alka Lamba in Kalkaji, Vijender Gupta from Rohini, Rajkumar Chauhan from Mangolpuri, Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhinagar, Dushyant Kumar Gautam from Karol Bagh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden, Raaj Kumar Anand from Patel Nagar, Ashish Sood in Janakpuri, and Tarwinder Singh Marwaha against Manish Sisodia in Jangpura.

Sources indicate that the BJP is expected to unveil the final list of candidates for these constituencies in Delhi on Saturday.

However, discussions are ongoing for 8-12 constituencies, and a core group meeting of the BJP will occur on Saturday (January 11) to finalize those selections.

BJP President JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah will preside over this core group meeting.

On January 4, the BJP had already published its first list of 29 candidates for the 70-member Delhi Assembly.

The meeting also included participation from Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, Organisation Secretary Pawan Rana, Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, and other core group members.

It is anticipated that the names of the remaining candidates will be disclosed in the upcoming days.

The Delhi Assembly elections are set to occur in a single phase on February 5, with results expected to be announced on February 8.

In the previous 2020 Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) dominated the polls, winning 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP secured only eight seats, while the Congress was unable to register any wins.

According to the Election Commission, the voter turnout was reported at 62.82 percent, a decrease of 4.65 percent compared to the 2015 Assembly elections in Delhi.

The AAP garnered 49,74,592 votes, representing 53.57 percent of the total valid votes cast, while the BJP received 35,75,529 votes, which is 38.51 percent of the total valid votes.
