New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) The BJP has sharply criticized the Congress for its leaders' statements regarding the conditions in Bangladesh, while also attacking the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal for using lathi-charge against individuals protesting alleged abuses against minorities in the neighboring nation.

During a press briefing at the party's headquarters in New Delhi, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused the opposition of engaging in appeasement politics, rather than presenting a united front on what he termed a humanitarian crisis.

"Prominent Congress leaders like Digvijaya Singh have even gone as far as to excuse the lynching of a Hindu by labeling it an 'action-reaction'. At a moment when the opposition should rally in support of the government, since this transcends political boundaries and is fundamentally an issue of human rights, they prioritize appeasement politics instead," Bhandari stated.

Focusing on various opposition leaders, the BJP spokesperson pointed out their selective silence and actions motivated by electoral considerations.

"Mamata Banerjee opted for lathi charge against Hindus, Digvijaya Singh defended the lynching of a Hindu youth, and Rahul Gandhi, currently in Germany, chose to remain silent. This indicates that the opposition's leading figures, due to their vote bank politics, have tacitly accepted the mob lynching of Hindu youth in Bangladesh," he remarked.

Bhandari further asserted that had opposition leaders genuinely opposed the violence faced by Hindus in Bangladesh, their reactions would have been markedly different.

"If they truly opposed the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, then Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, or even Mamata Banerjee would have spoken out; Mamata Banerjee would not have resorted to lathi-charging peaceful protestors in West Bengal," he added.

The BJP spokesperson also condemned the West Bengal Chief Minister for the police's actions against demonstrators in Kolkata.

"Individuals, including saints, were pleading with officials not to resort to a lathi-charge and allow them to protest peacefully, but the police refused. The Mamata government must respect the democratic rights of Hindus to protest peacefully and cease the use of lathis against them," Bhandari stated.

Protests intensified in Kolkata on Tuesday over the murder of a garment factory worker in Bangladesh, leading police to use lathi-charge to disperse demonstrators aiming to march toward the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in the Beckbagan area.

This situation resulted in clashes and significant traffic disruptions throughout parts of the city.

During the press conference, Bhandari presented alleged photographs showing West Bengal police dispersing protestors who were advocating for the situation in Bangladesh.

Referring to these images, he claimed, "This illustrates that in West Bengal, while police support actions such as laying the foundation for the Babri Masjid, anyone advocating for a Hindu brother faces lathi-charge."

Bhandari warned of escalating political actions, asserting that the party would continue to stand in solidarity with those protesting.

"If this injustice prevails, the Bharatiya Janata Party will firmly support every Bengali Hindu in West Bengal. The brutal murder of Hindus in Bangladesh has outraged the entire nation," he concluded.
