Is the DMK Government Failing Women's Safety in Tamil Nadu?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Dec 29 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP president, Nainar Nagenthran, on Monday launched a strong attack on the DMK administration, condemning it for what he described as a “total failure” to protect women's safety in the region, following the reported sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl in Karur district.
In a passionate statement shared on social media, Nagenthran expressed his profound sorrow over the harrowing reports indicating that a young man, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, kidnapped and assaulted the minor in Kalugur near Kulithalai.
Labeling the incident as “extremely distressing and shameful,” he remarked that such acts illustrate a severe breakdown of law and order under the current leadership.
The BJP leader pointed out that crimes against women and children are surging alarmingly across Tamil Nadu, attributing this rise to what he referred to as the “TASMAC model of governance,” which he claimed promotes alcohol misuse and societal decay.
He accused the DMK government of prioritizing liquor profits over public safety and ethical obligations.
“Despite repeated assurances from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin about his administration's commitment to women's safety and empowerment, occurrences like this starkly reveal the true situation on the ground,” Nagenthran stated.
He added that proclamations of progressive governance lose their credibility when minors are subjected to such heinous crimes.
The BJP State president also admonished the government for its failure to maintain strict law enforcement, asserting that criminals act without fear of consequences.
“The DMK administration must fully acknowledge its role in fostering this climate of insecurity. Women and children should not have to live in fear in their own communities,” he emphasized.
Demanding immediate and severe action, Nagenthran called for the harshest penalties for the perpetrator and urged the government to expedite justice for the victim and her family.
He further warned that the citizens of Tamil Nadu are vigilantly observing the government's actions and will respond at the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Reiterating the BJP's commitment to ensuring women's safety, Nagenthran stated that his party will persist in voicing concerns about what he termed the “systemic failure” of the ruling DMK and will advocate for a safer environment for women and children throughout the state.
