Jammu, March 25 (NationPress) BJP MLAs exited the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Tuesday following a tumultuous session overshadowed by the protests regarding daily wagers, currently on strike in the union territory.

Members from both opposition and treasury benches chanted slogans, blaming one another for the dire situation faced by thousands of daily wagers in the UT.

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) and BJP MLA Sunil Sharma expressed his concerns regarding the daily wagers' plight during the House session on Monday, but the government failed to respond.

“The government must address this issue,” the LoP insisted.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary of the NC criticized the BJP for neglecting the daily wagers’ issues for the past decade.

“We quickly formed a committee to tackle daily wagers' issues. Why didn’t you establish a committee to address their problems in the last ten years?” Choudhary questioned.

His comments led to a heated exchange between BJP and ruling NC and Congress members.

BJP’s Sham Lal Sharma urged the “government to act like a government.”

As protests persisted, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that the BJP acknowledged the prolonged injustice faced by daily wagers for over a decade.

“I urge daily wagers to end their strike. A committee led by the chief secretary and other officials will negotiate with you,” he said.

Subsequently, BJP legislators staged a walkout from the assembly.

The daily wagers have been on strike for two days and have vowed to continue until their issues are addressed.

Thousands of daily wagers are demanding regularization and wage increases.

Some of these individuals have surpassed the maximum age limit for applying for government positions.

In certain cases, a daily wager has been serving for 22 years without any resolution regarding their employment status.

Notably, various departments, including the Jal Shakti department and Power Development department, rely significantly on the daily wagers for their operations.
