BJP Initiates Signature Drive and Missed Call Campaign for Ayushman Bharat in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 5 (NationPress) The President of Delhi BJP, Virendra Sachdeva, has expressed strong disapproval of the Delhi government for its failure to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme, labeling it a significant injustice to the residents of the city. To rally public backing, the BJP has commenced a signature campaign and launched a missed call initiative at the phone number 7820078200.

In a statement, the Delhi BJP chief said, “We call upon the citizens of Delhi to participate in this campaign and inquire why such a vital health initiative, which has the potential to aid millions, is not being executed by the Delhi government.”

He highlighted that the scheme, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, offers free medical treatment worth up to Rs 5 lakh annually for economically disadvantaged families but is currently stalled in Delhi due to political issues.

This action follows the Delhi High Court criticizing the Delhi government on November 29 for its hesitance to adopt the Centre's Ayushman Bharat scheme.

In response to the court’s observations, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi instructed the health department to investigate methods for implementing the scheme without undermining the existing healthcare services provided by the Delhi government.

Previously, the AAP government defended its stance by claiming that its own free healthcare services were superior to the Ayushman Bharat scheme, suggesting that this was why individuals from other states were coming to Delhi to utilize the free health services offered in Delhi government hospitals.

Notably, Delhi and West Bengal are the only states in the nation that have yet to adopt the scheme, while Odisha is currently in the process of implementation.

Earlier this year, the scheme was broadened to include universal coverage for individuals aged 70 and above.

In October, Prime Minister Modi voiced his disappointment, indicating that political barriers in Delhi and West Bengal are hindering the elderly in these areas from reaping the benefits of the scheme.

Through the signature campaign and missed call initiative, the BJP aims to bolster public support and exert pressure on the Delhi government to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme, thereby ensuring affordable healthcare for all residents.
