BJP J&K Yuva Morcha Leader Attacked in Jammu

Jammu, Jan 3 (NationPress) Kanav Sharma, the president of the BJP J&K Yuva Morcha and an active lawyer, was targeted in an armed shooting on Friday after a confrontation regarding a parking area in Jammu's Sarwal district.
As per official reports, the incident unfolded when Sharma attempted to park his vehicle, leading to a fiery dispute with a local individual over the parking space. The person, whose identity is known to the authorities, discharged two rounds at Sharma during the conflict.
Sharma was promptly taken to the emergency unit at Sarwal Hospital. However, due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu for advanced medical care.
The police have initiated a case under applicable legal provisions and are actively investigating to capture the shooter. A police representative remarked, “We are examining whether the shooting was purely a consequence of the argument or if it was part of a planned attack.”
Kanav Sharma, who is involved in a campaign against drug abuse, is the son of senior advocate and BJP official Chander Mohan Sharma.
This event occurs in the context of the BJP's significant electoral success in Jammu. In the recent legislative assembly elections, the BJP won all 29 assembly seats in the Jammu region, marking a substantial victory.
Furthermore, the party holds both Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Udhampur, with Dr Jitendra Singh serving as MoS (PMO) and Jugal Kishore Sharma as the MP for Jammu.
The National Conference (NC) remains the dominant party in the 90-member assembly with 42 seats, followed by the BJP with 29 seats. Other parties, such as Congress (6), CPI(M) (1), AAP (1), Peoples Conference (1), and independents (7), account for the rest. Importantly, six independents later aligned with the NC.
Ongoing police investigations aim to clarify the motive behind the attack and apprehend the assailant.
