BJP Yuva Morcha District Chief Targeted in Shooting Incident in Jammu City

Jammu, Jan 3 (NationPress) Kanav Sharma, the district president of the BJP Yuva Morcha and a practicing lawyer, was shot on Friday after a dispute regarding a parking space in the Sarwal area.

As per official reports, the incident transpired while Sharma was maneuvering his vehicle into a parking spot, which led to a heated exchange with a local resident over the space. The individual, recognized by authorities, discharged two shots at Sharma amid the confrontation.

Sharma was promptly taken to the emergency department of Sarwal Hospital. However, due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu for advanced medical care.

The police have initiated a case under relevant legal provisions and are actively investigating to locate the perpetrator. A police spokesperson remarked, "We are examining whether the shooting was a spontaneous outcome of the argument or if it involved any prior planning."

Kanav Sharma is known for his involvement in an anti-drug initiative and is the son of senior lawyer and BJP figure Chander Mohan Sharma.

This occurrence is set against the backdrop of the BJP's notable electoral success in Jammu, where they captured all 29 assembly seats in the Jammu division during the last legislative assembly elections, signifying a significant victory.

Furthermore, the party holds both Lok Sabha constituencies in Jammu and Udhampur, with Union Minister Jitendra Singh acting as MoS (PMO) and Jugal Kishore Sharma serving as the MP for Jammu.

The National Conference (NC) is the predominant party in the 90-member assembly with 42 seats, followed by the BJP with 29 seats. Other political entities, including Congress (6), CPI(M) (1), AAP (1), Peoples Conference (1), and independents (7), form the remainder. Notably, six independents later allied with the NC.

Efforts by the police to ascertain the precise motive and apprehend the shooter are ongoing.
