Suspect Arrested After Shooting BJP Youth Leader in Jammu

Jammu, Jan 4 (NationPress) A suspect, who shot at and injured BJP Yuva Morcha Jammu district president Kanav Sharma, was apprehended on Saturday, as per police reports.
The individual, identified as Ravinder Singh, a lineman with the Power Development Department (PDD), fired two shots at Kanav Sharma with his licensed pistol, police confirmed.
The incident occurred near the Bakshi Nagar police station on Friday, seemingly sparked by a disagreement over a parking space.
The police have also recovered the firearm involved in the incident.
According to the police, Sharma was attempting to park his vehicle outside the PDD lineman's residence when Singh objected, leading to a heated exchange.
During the confrontation, Singh produced his licensed pistol and discharged two rounds at Kanav Sharma, as stated by the police.
Following the shooting, Singh fled the scene.
Sharma was promptly transported to Sarwal Hospital for initial treatment and was subsequently moved to Government Medical College (GMC) for further care.
Upon receiving reports, Jammu Police acted swiftly, deploying teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory to the scene of the crime.
Utilizing both technical and human intelligence, Jammu Police apprehended Singh and confiscated the weapon used in the crime. Singh, a government employee stationed at Parade, Jammu, was on duty at New Plot.
The Bakshi Nagar Police Station has filed an FIR No. 01/2025 under section 109 of BNS, and an investigation is currently underway.
Kanav Sharma, an advocate, is the son of senior BJP leader Chander Mohan Sharma.
