New Delhi, March 15 (NationPress) BJP leader G. V. L. Narasimha Rao vehemently condemned the Congress-led Telangana government and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for enlisting French economist Thomas Piketty in the state's caste census study.
Rao charged the Congress with jeopardizing India's sensitive demographic data and questioned the rationale for involving a foreign economist in such a critical issue for mere political gains.
In a video address, Rao criticized the Telangana government's choice to include Piketty in an expert committee designated to scrutinize the caste census.
“Though it may appear to be an academic endeavor, it is far from it. This action is part of a nefarious agenda. By entrusting sensitive caste and demographic information to a foreign economist, the Telangana government risks aligning this data with Western narratives that could tarnish India’s reputation,” he stated.
Rao added that such actions might destabilize the country, warning that the data could be exploited to tarnish India’s image on the global stage.
He expressed concerns that this could be an element of a larger strategy to promote political narratives, utilizing foreign expertise to endorse ideas that resonate with the Congress's political objectives.
Rao also directed his ire at the LoP, questioning, “Rahul Gandhi, will you jeopardize India’s demographic data for political advantage? Will you compromise the future of the country merely to serve your political ambitions?”
He accused Gandhi of seizing every opportunity to criticize India, both domestically and internationally, including soliciting foreign assistance to undermine the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rao claimed that Congress leaders had even approached Pakistan in a bid to unseat Modi.
The BJP leader criticized Piketty’s participation due to his support for a minimum income guarantee in Congress’s 2019 manifesto, suggesting that this proposal, akin to the caste census, served the party’s political agenda.
“This French economist has his own motives that align with the political strategy of the Congress,” Rao asserted.
Rao demanded an apology from the Congress party to the people of India for endangering sensitive national data.
He urged the party to discontinue the practice of providing crucial demographic and social data to foreign economists solely to fit their political narratives.
“Rahul Gandhi has been disseminating lies and dangerous, unreliable narratives,” Rao stated, calling for an immediate retraction of such actions.
The BJP leader concluded by accusing Gandhi of seeking foreign validation for his politically charged theories.
“It’s evident that Rahul Gandhi now seeks foreign endorsement to substantiate his fabricated ideas,” he remarked.
He called upon the Congress party to recognize its error and amend its actions, warning that failure to do so would result in the Indian populace viewing this as yet another attempt by the Congress to destabilize the nation.
The Congress-led Telangana government has enlisted French economist Thomas Piketty as a member of an 11-member expert committee tasked with analyzing and interpreting the data gathered during the recent caste census in the state. The expert group is expected to submit its report to the Telangana government within a month.
