The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rishi Kant, confirmed that the suspect, identified as Mannu, has been apprehended.

Following reports on Friday evening, police arrived at Jawahar village in Gohana tehsil and discovered that Mannu had fatally shot the president of Mundlana Mandal, Surendra Jawahar.

According to ACP Rishi Kant, a report has been lodged based on a complaint from Komal, the wife of Surendra Jawahar.

“The conflict stemmed from a disagreement over three bighas of land. Jawahar had purchased this land from Mannu's relatives, and the dispute pertains to this transaction. A legal battle has been ongoing since 2021 regarding the ownership of the disputed land. Surendra Jawahar had paid Rs 5 lakh for the property, but Mannu did not complete the transfer,” he stated.

Mannu had previously cautioned Surendra Jawahar against entering his land. Nonetheless, the BJP leader went to the site to address the matter. In a fit of rage, Mannu pursued him and shot him from close range, according to police reports.

CCTV footage captured the moment Mannu forced Surendra Jawahar into a shop and aimed a gun at his head, with Surendra heard exclaiming, “Maar diya, maar diya (I have been killed).”

Despite attempts by two to three individuals to intervene, Mannu fired multiple shots at Surendra Jawahar before fleeing the scene.

The local BJP leader succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination.

The investigation is ongoing at Sadar Police Station, with further details pending as authorities interrogate the suspect.
