New Delhi, March 15 (NationPress) In a distressing event that left the community in shock, a local leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Surendra Jawahar, was fatally shot during Holi due to a land dispute with a neighbor in Sonipat, Haryana, police reported on Saturday.

The suspect has been identified as Monu, who fired three bullets into the body of the BJP's Mundlana Mandal president Jawahar on Friday night at Jawahar village.

Gohana ACP Rishi Kant stated that the police received information regarding Surendra Jawahar's murder by his neighbor Monu at 9:30 PM on Holi night.

Following the report, law enforcement arrived at Jawahar village and organized three teams to probe the incident.

Initial investigations disclosed that Surendra Jawahar had purchased land from Monu's uncle and aunt, and the conflict stemmed from this property issue, the ACP noted.

The deceased's body has been sent for autopsy, and authorities are working to apprehend the suspect.

Monu had allegedly warned Surendra Jawahar against entering his land. Nevertheless, the BJP leader went to the location to clear the land, which enraged Monu, leading him to pursue and shoot Surendra Jawahar at close range, according to police reports.

CCTV footage captured the moment Surendra Jawahar entered a shop exclaiming, 'Maar diya maar diya (I have been killed)' . However, Monu followed him and fired three bullets into Surendra Jawahar from point-blank distance. The local BJP leader succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

The Sadar Police Station is currently investigating this case.
