BJP Leaders Applaud Assam Government's Ban on Beef Consumption in Public Areas

New Delhi, Dec 5 (NationPress) The decision by the Assam government to enforce a total ban on the consumption of beef in public areas, such as hotels and restaurants, has received positive feedback from numerous BJP leaders.

In Chhattisgarh, Cabinet Minister Tankaram Verma praised this initiative, stating, “In our nation, cows are worshipped as Gau Mata. Their significance in our lives is unmatched from birth to death, even during last rites where cow urine is utilized. I fully endorse this resolution by the Assam government and commend them for taking such a step.”

Likewise, Jaiveer Singh, the Minister of Tourism & Culture in Uttar Pradesh, voiced his approval, describing the decision as “an essential and admirable initiative,” and recommended its prompt implementation.

The announcement was made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following a Cabinet meeting convened in the national capital.

Sarma underlined that the new restriction builds upon a prior ban, which prohibited beef consumption within a five-km radius of temples and places of worship.

“Starting today, there is a total ban on the consumption of beef in public areas throughout Assam. This includes the serving of beef in hotels, restaurants, and at community gatherings. Those who violate this rule will face penalties as per the law,” Sarma declared during a press conference.

Sarma informed reporters, “We had previously instituted a ban on beef consumption in areas within a five-km radius of temples and other sacred sites. However, we have now decided to broaden this restriction to impose a comprehensive ban on beef consumption in public areas across Assam.”

“This new rule also encompasses the serving of beef in hotels, restaurants, and any community celebrations within the state. Offenders will be penalized according to the legal provisions,” he added.

The Chief Minister also criticized the Congress party, stating, “Some Congress leaders, including the state president, have advocated for a ban on beef consumption within the state. We already had a stringent law regarding this; however, the subject was thoroughly deliberated in today’s Cabinet meeting, leading to our decision for a blanket ban on beef consumption in public areas throughout the state.”
