Hyderabad, Jan 27 (NationPress) BJP MP Eatala Rajender on Monday approached the Telangana High Court to quash the First Information Report (FIR) lodged against him for slapping a real estate broker.
The Lok Sabha member representing Malkajgiri filed a petition in the High Court, aiming to nullify the FIR registered last week at the Pocharam IT Corridor police station under the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate.
Rajender, a former state Minister, slapped a real estate broker in Pocharam village of Medchal Malkajgiri district on the outskirts of Hyderabad on January 21, accusing him of encroaching on land belonging to the less fortunate.
Following a complaint by Gyara Upender, an FIR was filed under sections 126(2), 115(2), 352, 351(2), in conjunction with section 189(2), and section 191(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act.
As per the complaint, Etala Rajender, along with 30 others, allegedly assaulted Upender, who was on security duty in Ekashila Nagar.
Accusing the real estate agent of exploiting the poor through land encroachments, the former Minister confronted him physically after a heated exchange.
Upon discovering that brokers were reportedly harassing locals by encroaching on their land, the MP, accompanied by several party leaders, visited Pocharam village and confronted the broker.
He slapped the broker and cautioned him about potential legal repercussions.
Inspired by Rajender's actions, his supporters and companions also attacked the agent.
"I lost my temper because officials are failing to assist the common populace. The police have diminished respect for the government due to biased behavior. We felt compelled to teach land grabbers a lesson. My party and I will support the people and won't hesitate to take the law into our own hands to safeguard their lands if police and revenue officials remain inactive," the BJP MP told the media.
He accused some officials of colluding with real estate brokers to encroach upon the lands of the poor.
The BJP leader mentioned that he discussed the land issue with the District Collector and Police Commissioner.
He indicated that impoverished individuals in Narapalli and Korremula villages purchased land and constructed homes in 1985.
He added that 149 acres of unutilized land have been resold multiple times, causing immense distress to rightful owners.
Etala Rajender asserted that fraudulent documents were created in collusion with officials to encroach upon the lands of the less fortunate.
He demanded accountability for the officials who assisted brokers.
Previously affiliated with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), he joined the BJP after being removed from the Cabinet in 2021 by then Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao over allegations of land grabbing from farmers.
The former Minister was re-elected to the Assembly from the Huzurabad constituency in the 2021 by-election as a BJP candidate.
Although he failed to retain the seat in the 2023 Assembly elections, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Malkajgiri last year.
