Telangana High Court Rejects Former BRS MLA's Petition in Lagacherla Incident

Hyderabad, Dec 4 (NationPress) The Telangana High Court has dismissed the petition of former BRS MLA Patnam Narender Reddy on Wednesday, which sought to annul the case against him linked to the attack on government officials in Vikarabad district.
The High Court, which had reserved its orders the previous week, announced its decision on Wednesday, turning down Narender Reddy's request to overturn the orders of a lower court.
Justice K. Lakshman, however, directed the lower court to evaluate the bail application of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader based on its merits.
On November 29, the High Court invalidated two out of the three FIRs filed against the former MLA. Mahender Reddy’s spouse Shurthi questioned the legitimacy of registering three First Information Reports (FIRs) for the same incident. The court concurred with the arguments of the former MLA’s lawyer and quashed two of the FIRs.
A mob attacked Vikarabad District Collector Prateek Jain and several officials during a public hearing concerning land acquisition for the proposed ‘Pharma Village’ on November 11. This incident in Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s Assembly constituency of Kodangal sparked a political conflict between the ruling Congress and the main opposition BRS, with the former accusing BRS leaders of inciting the violence.
The Bomraspet police station has filed a case against Narender Reddy for allegedly instigating farmers to violently oppose land acquisition. Following separate complaints from the Mandal Revenue Officer and the Deputy Superintendent of Police, two additional FIRs were registered.
The former MLA from Kodangal constituency is identified as the primary accused in the cases filed by the Vikarabad police concerning the assault. He was apprehended in Hyderabad on November 13, and subsequently, a court ordered him to be held in judicial custody for 14 days.
A local court in Kodangal, Vikarabad, extended Narender Reddy's judicial remand until December 11 on November 28.
In light of public opposition, the state government withdrew the notice for land acquisition for the proposed ‘Pharma Village’ last week. It now intends to procure land for the development of a multipurpose industrial park. Notifications for acquiring 1,358.37 acres of assigned/patta land in Hakeempet, Polepally, and Lagacherla villages of Dudyal Mandal for the establishment of Pharma Village were issued in July-August 2024. The Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) proposed to acquire 71.39 acres of land in Polepally and 632.26 acres in Lagacherla village.
