BJP Voices Concerns to Himachal Governor on Kamla Nehru Hospital Relocation
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Shimla, April 13 (NationPress) A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) convened with Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta at the Raj Bhavan on Monday, presenting a memorandum that denounces two significant decisions made by the state government, labeling them as "anti-people and unrealistic".
Among their concerns was the suggested relocation of the gynaecology department from the historic Kamla Nehru Hospital to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH). The BJP leaders cautioned that this shift could have detrimental effects on maternal and neonatal healthcare services within the state.
The Kamla Nehru Hospital has been a vital healthcare provider for women and infants for nearly a century, and the BJP asserted that this transition is being executed through a "silent shifting" process without proper notification or sufficient planning.
The delegation expressed that the IGMCH is already operating over its capacity. They warned that forcing a 300-bed specialized unit into an already strained institution would endanger both healthcare delivery and patient safety.
The memorandum pointed out that over Rs 20 crore of public investment had been directed towards enhancing the Kamla Nehru Hospital, which now faces the risk of becoming ineffective.
Additionally, the BJP raised alarms regarding the potential alternative use of the hospital's land and called for a transparent investigation into this matter.
Furthermore, the delegation criticized the substantial increase in pass fees for restricted and regulated roads in Shimla city. They reported that the proposed changes raised the processing fee from Rs 100 to Rs 500 and the pass fee from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000, which would impose a heavy financial burden on residents, traders, and employees.
The BJP condemned this action as "arbitrary and revenue-driven," asserting that it would lead to unnecessary hardship and public dissatisfaction. They also denounced the newly added stringent penalties, including hefty fines and possible imprisonment, as disproportionate and contrary to democratic principles.
The BJP urged the Governor to intervene in both matters, advocating for the preservation of services at Kamla Nehru Hospital and the reversal of the proposed fee increases. The delegation, which included state General Secretary Sanjeev Katwal, media convenor Karan Nanda, and treasurer Kamal Sood, concluded by stating their intention to amplify their agitation against what they describe as 'anti-people' policies of the state government.
