Bengaluru, Aug 4 (NationPress) The BJP has strongly condemned the brutal murder of a young man in Koppal district, asserting that a troubling pattern of violent deaths, previously observed in coastal Karnataka, is now spreading to the northern regions of the state. The party is demanding that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) take over the investigation of this case.

During a press conference on Wednesday, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, expressed, "We have been voicing our concerns about the complete breakdown of law and order in the state. The indifferent Siddaramaiah-led government appears either unaware of the gravity of the situation or simply uninterested. The number of brutal killings is escalating in the coastal areas, and this alarming trend is now permeating from Bidar in North Karnataka to Bengaluru."

“In Koppal, on August 3, Gavisiddappa Nayak, a member of the Scheduled Tribe, was viciously murdered. Sadiq Hussain and six accomplices attacked him with swords right in front of a mosque. The motive behind this heinous act is thought to be his relationship with a Muslim girl, reportedly leading to their elopement. The police had previously intervened to counsel both parties before the tragic incident,” he remarked.

“Sadiq executed the murder in the heart of the city, right in front of a mosque. The attackers approached from behind and decapitated him with swords,” Narayanaswamy noted.

“This murder mirrors the brutal killing of Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru. Just a day prior, the murderer had shared an Instagram video brandishing a sword, which the police failed to monitor, despite being aware of him. He also uploaded videos smoking marijuana,” he added.

“On Tuesday, BJP leader Sriramulu paid a visit to the bereaved family since the victim belonged to his community. Astonishingly, no FIR had been filed by that time. Following his visit, social media erupted with derisive comments mocking Sriramulu's visit to the grieving family. What exactly were the police doing?” he questioned.

“Six individuals are implicated in this crime, with four arrests made so far. The girl, who played a pivotal role, remains unapprehended. The district minister appears uninterested in the case, and there are claims that the local MLA is backing the accused,” he asserted.

“We plan to initiate a significant protest. Senior BJP leader Sriramulu will spearhead this movement. A substantial demonstration is scheduled for August 8 or 10,” he stated.

Narayanaswamy stressed that to avert further violence from infiltrating North Karnataka, the Koppal murder case must be transferred to the NIA for a comprehensive investigation.

“We anticipated action from the Chief Minister, who was supposed to visit Koppal today; however, his trip was canceled, likely to avoid facing tough inquiries regarding the murder. He consistently evades accountability during such incidents. The victim's family requires protection,” he urged.

Point of View

It's crucial to address the underlying issues rather than politicizing the tragedy. The demand for an NIA investigation could pave the way for a thorough examination of the factors contributing to this violence, ensuring accountability and justice for the victim’s family.
