New Delhi, Nov 22 (NationPress) In a significant political transformation in Bihar, the BJP has taken over the Home Department for the first time in twenty years. BJP leader and minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal expressed optimism regarding this change, asserting the party’s commitment to enhancing Bihar’s internal security and governance.
On Friday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar transferred this vital portfolio to Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary as part of a new departmental arrangement between the JD(U) and BJP. In exchange, the JD(U) now oversees the Finance Ministry along with the Commercial Tax Department, which were previously under BJP control.
In a conversation with IANS, Jaiswal stated, “I appreciate the Chief Minister for assigning our party the Home Ministry and entrusting us with this responsibility. I am confident that our leaders will strive to restore law and order throughout Bihar via the Home Department.”
The Home Department has historically been a closely held portfolio in Bihar’s political landscape. Nitish Kumar, despite numerous coalition changes over the years, has seldom relinquished it. Even during Jitan Ram Manjhi’s brief term as Chief Minister, the Home portfolio remained under the CM’s office, though insiders indicated that Nitish maintained significant control.
With the BJP now commanding this powerful ministry, this transition signifies a noteworthy recalibration of duties within the ruling alliance. Political analysts interpret this move as both a strategic balancing act and an indicator of increasing cooperation between the JD(U) and the BJP-led NDA government in the state.
Jaiswal also critiqued the opposition, forecasting discord within the INDIA alliance. “The INDIA coalition is on the brink of disintegration. Rahul Gandhi is resistant to any regulated approach, and soon a significant split within the alliance will be evident,” he remarked, alluding to escalating tensions within the opposition bloc ahead of forthcoming political confrontations.
As the BJP takes on the Home Department after a two-decade gap, there are high expectations regarding how the party will tackle the growing concerns over law and order in the state. The new distribution of responsibilities heralds a renewed phase of power-sharing in Bihar’s coalition politics, with both partners banking on stability and administrative effectiveness.
