Political Tensions Rise as BJP Critiques Congress on Rajasthan Day Celebrations
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 30 (NationPress) Prominent leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajasthan launched a fierce critique against the Congress party regarding its Rajasthan Day wishes, accusing it of being out of touch with the state's cultural heritage and traditions.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel asserted that the Congress party shows little regard for the soil and cultural legacy of Rajasthan, preferring to focus on "English calendar dates" over traditional Indian customs.
Earlier on the same day, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot offered his congratulations to the residents, stating, "Sincere congratulations and best wishes to everyone in the state on Rajasthan's Foundation Day — a land known for its valor, heritage, and entrepreneurial spirit."
He called upon citizens to bolster cultural unity, promote brotherhood, and ensure inclusive participation in development, while reaffirming the commitment to quality healthcare and education.
In response to the Congress leaders' greetings, Patel pointed out that the state had already celebrated Rajasthan Day on March 19 this year, aligning with Chaitra Shukla Pratipada and Nav Samvatsar.
“While the entire state commemorated this day according to the traditional calendar, Congress leaders opted for silence. Their late greetings now undermine public sentiment,” he remarked.
Patel further claimed that the Congress party fears losing its voter base if it embraces Hindu customs and traditions. He accused leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Ashok Gehlot of displaying an "aversion" to the Panchang (Hindu calendar).
In emphasizing the historical significance, Patel reminded that the establishment of ‘Vrihad Rajasthan’ in 1949 occurred on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada.
He noted that the current state government, led by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, has sought to reconnect with these traditions by celebrating Rajasthan Day in accordance with the traditional calendar.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Jawahar Singh Bedham echoed similar views, asserting that the Congress party is antagonistic towards Rajasthan's culture and Indian traditions.
He stated that sending greetings on March 30 represents a mindset “against Hindu customs and Sanatan culture,” labeling it a “deliberate attempt to mislead the public.”
Bedham also referenced the historical occasion of Rajasthan's formation, linking it to an auspicious alignment under Revati Nakshatra and Indra Yoga on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, a decision associated with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Questioning Congress leaders, he asked why they are “ignoring the sentiments linked to Sardar Patel and traditional observances.”
He added that the state government's choice to commemorate Nav Samvatsar as Rajasthan Day aims to honor Indian customs, noting that the event was celebrated with great enthusiasm across the state on March 19.
Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully also extended his greetings on Monday in recognition of Rajasthan Day.
