Rajasthan's CM Sharma Responds Forcefully to Gehlot's Delhi Criticism
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 17 (NationPress) Rajasthan's Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma unleashed a pointed critique against former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday, as Gehlot's remarks questioning Sharma's trips to Delhi sparked renewed political tensions within the state.
During an event held at Tagore International School in Mansarovar, Sharma, while refraining from directly naming Gehlot, made a veiled reference to the latter's time in office. He commented, "You often spent your time lounging in hotels. Every time you emerged, it was clear you were unprepared for work."
Sharma challenged Gehlot's approach to governance, asserting, "We are dedicated to persistent efforts. Our focus remains on continuous service to the public without any breaks."
At the 'Rajasthan Yuva Shakti Diwas' program, part of the Rajasthan Diwas festivities, Sharma emphasized that his administration and public officials are tirelessly working for the benefit of the citizens. He accused the opposition of evading responsibility.
"They refuse to compare the achievements of our two years with their five-year regime. To sidestep such comparisons, they exited the Assembly," he stated.
Sharma noted that he had presented a comprehensive report detailing his administration's accomplishments in the Assembly and challenged the opposition to reciprocate, but received no feedback in return.
In response to critiques regarding his visits to Delhi, he remarked, "People question my trips to Delhi. Should I conform to someone else's expectations? We will undertake whatever is essential for the people of Rajasthan."
He asserted that the opposition's criticism would not hinder his government's operations.
Sharma alleged corruption during the prior Congress administration, specifically referencing irregularities within the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), which led to disciplinary actions against several individuals.
He promised continued stringent measures against anyone found culpable. Highlighting his recent trip to Delhi, he asserted, "My visits yield tangible outcomes. The meetings I held recently have produced significant results."
He also reported improvements in the state's financial metrics, claiming the fiscal deficit has been reduced and per capita income has risen from Rs 1.67 lakh to over Rs 2 lakh.
In contrast, Rajasthan's Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully condemned Sharma's statements, labeling them as inappropriate and insensitive.
Jully remarked that the Chief Minister's comments regarding Gehlot's health compromised the dignity associated with the office. He called for an apology, asserting that such remarks tarnished the standards of governance and public conversation.
This exchange has heightened the political rhetoric in Rajasthan, with both sides exchanging sharp criticisms in light of impending political developments.
