Synopsis

In a strong rebuttal to PM Modi's comments in Ajmer, Ashok Gehlot emphasizes that opposing a political leader does not equate to opposing the nation, urging for a focus on public interest rather than political rhetoric.

Gehlot's strong response to Modi's comments reflects political tensions.
Opposition to leaders is not equivalent to being unpatriotic.
Importance of focusing on public governance rather than political rhetoric.
Critique of BJP's handling of state issues and policies.
Call for upholding constitutional integrity in political discourse.

Jaipur, Feb 28 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday for allegedly targeting the Congress party during a government event in Ajmer. He asserted that disagreeing with a political leader does not equate to disagreeing with the nation.

Gehlot referred to PM Modi's comments as “politically motivated” and inappropriate for a government setting, emphasizing that such occasions should prioritize public interest rather than engage in partisan disputes.

He pointed out that utilizing a government function to criticize Congress distracts from crucial governance issues.

Furthermore, he stressed that opposing a political figure does not signify opposition to the nation, urging the Prime Minister to uphold the integrity of constitutional positions and governmental platforms.

Gehlot accused the BJP government of neglecting significant state matters while indulging in political rhetoric, asserting that the people of Rajasthan are aware of the realities on the ground.

“Today in Ajmer, the remarks made by PM Modi regarding the Congress party showcase his political desperation. It is absurd for those representing an ideology that did not contribute even a fingernail during the freedom struggle to accuse Congress—a party with a rich history of leading the freedom movement—of dividing the country,” he stated.

“PM Modi must understand that opposing him is not synonymous with opposing the nation. He should not misjudge himself as being above the country. It is disheartening that he utilized an official government platform solely for narrow political gains. The public anticipated him to address the public interest issues I raised in my letter. Does he not wish for the entire nation to benefit from the ‘Right to Health’ like Rajasthan?”

“Is he uninterested in groundbreaking initiatives like the Gig Workers Welfare Act and the Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme? The BJP government has merely rebranded the ERCP without delivering any substantial work on it. The people of Rajasthan are fully aware of the truth. Instead of politicizing the issue of paper leaks, he should have acknowledged Rajasthan’s stringent anti-paper leak law, which enforces penalties such as life imprisonment, a fine of Rs 10 crore, and confiscation of the culprits’ assets. This law serves as a model for the nation,” he added.

“Rather than misleading the youth through political maneuvering, he should have advocated for implementing such a robust law at the Central Government level. The BJP government has not even dared to investigate the OMR sheet scam that transpired during its own administration in Rajasthan.

“It would have been preferable if he had honored his commitment made during the Assembly elections to not dismantle Congress government schemes and directed the Chief Minister to reinstate those that were shut down. Today, the empty slogan of ‘Double Engine’ is proving to be ‘Double Zero’ in Rajasthan,” Gehlot concluded.

Point of View

Ashok Gehlot's remarks highlight the growing concern over political leaders using government platforms for partisan disputes. This discourse reflects a broader issue within political practices, emphasizing the need for focus on governance rather than political rivalry.
