Chandigarh, March 12 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in the Haryana civic elections held on Wednesday, with its mayoral candidates clinching victories in Ambala, Gurugram, Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak, Faridabad, Yamunanagar, Panipat, and Sonipat municipal corporations.

In a surprising turn, the main opposition party, Congress, faced a significant defeat even in Rohtak, a traditional stronghold of Bhupinder Hooda.

This was the first time the Congress contested the state civic elections under its own symbol, but it was unable to secure any seats.

In Manesar, independent candidate Inderjit Yadav triumphed over BJP's Sundar Lal by a margin of 2,235 votes.

Gurugram saw BJP's Raj Rani receiving 270,781 votes, defeating Congress candidate Seema Pahuja by a substantial 179,485 votes. Meanwhile, in Faridabad, Parveen Joshi of the BJP won with 416,927 votes.

Hisar's Parveen Popli from the BJP won by a margin of 64,456 votes, while Ram Avtar Valmiki of the BJP secured victory in Rohtak with a margin of 45,198 votes.

In Karnal, Renu Bala of the BJP won with 83,630 votes, defeating Congress's Manoj Wadhwa, who garnered 25,359 votes. Suman from the BJP also emerged victorious in Yamunanagar.

Ambala's mayoral by-election was won by BJP's Shailja Sachdeva, whereas in Sonipat, Rajiv Jain of the BJP won with 57,858 votes. Konal Saini of the BJP secured 162,075 votes in Panipat.

In reaction to the party's resounding victory, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed gratitude, stating, "The people of Haryana have endorsed the triple-engine government... I sincerely thank the people of Haryana. Our local body government and this triple-engine government will significantly contribute to realizing PM Narendra Modi's vision of 'Viksit Bharat'."

Despite the setback, veteran Congress leader Hooda commented, "The Congress may have improved in some regions, but I did not engage during the elections. I don’t believe these outcomes will affect us considerably."

The BJP's triumph, particularly in urban centers such as Gurugram and Faridabad, underscores its dominance in Haryana's political arena, making history in October 2024 by being the first party to secure three consecutive terms in the state Assembly elections.
