New Delhi, March 2 (NationPress) The polls for the local body elections are currently active in Haryana today, with numerous voters arriving early at various locations.
Among the first to cast his vote was Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who voted in Karnal.
Following his voting, he remarked, "Local governance is an essential foundation of democracy. At booth number 179 in Rohtak, many elderly voters were spotted enthusiastically casting their votes.
The elections are being conducted across 33 municipal bodies—including eight municipal corporations, 21 municipalities, and four municipal councils.
According to the Election Commission's timetable, voting will occur from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with results to be announced on March 12.
This polling is for mayoral positions and ward councillors in seven significant municipal corporations—Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal, and Yamunanagar. The polls are also taking place in Ambala and Sonepat for the mayoral roles, following the election of former mayors Shakti Rani Sharma (Ambala) and Nikhil Madan (Sonepat) to the Assembly.
A total of 39 candidates are vying for mayoral positions across eight municipal corporations.
However, voting for the Panipat municipal corporation is scheduled separately for March 9, and thus, campaigning in Panipat will end at 6 p.m. on March 7.
In addition to the municipal corporations, elections are also being held for the post of president and ward members in municipal councils in Ambala Sadar (Ambala Cantt), Pataudi Jatoli Mandi (Gurugram), Thanesar (Kurukshetra), and Sirsa.
Presidential elections will occur in the municipal councils of Sohna (Gurugram), Assandh (Karnal), and Ismailabad (Kurukshetra). Additionally, 21 municipal committees will also elect their presidents and ward members.
In the Gurugram district, polling is taking place in five municipal areas—Municipal Corporation, Gurugram; Municipal Corporation, Manesar; and the municipal councils of Sohna, Pataudi, and Farrukhnagar. District Magistrate-cum-District Election Officer Ajay Kumar stated that polling parties have assumed responsibility for their respective booths to facilitate voting at 1,109 polling stations in the district.
