Key Takeaways
Bagalkot (Karnataka), April 6 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Karnataka and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai has criticized the current state government for being anti-SC, ST, and OBC, claiming it has done a disservice to the communities whose support helped it gain power.
Addressing a gathering in support of BJP candidate Veeranna Charantimath in Bammangi village, he called upon the Ganga community to showcase their electoral influence, asserting that political parties will seek their engagement once they demonstrate their strength.
Describing the by-election as pivotal, he emphasized it as a chance for transformation, suggesting voters dismiss leaders who perpetuate false promises and injustice. He referenced the arrests of Ambigara community members during Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, stressing the necessity of political power to achieve justice.
Bommai highlighted that the Constitution, crafted by B.R. Ambedkar, provides a pathway for communities to gain political empowerment.
He encouraged unity within the community, stating that collective strength leads to victory. He pointed out that certain communities have prospered due to their combination of knowledge and political influence, urging others to follow suit.
Despite the community's previous support for the Congress, he claimed it has neglected their needs, treating them merely as a source of votes. He insisted that political parties must earn the right to seek votes through genuine service to the community.
He cautioned voters against selling their votes for temporary financial gain, questioning whether they preferred short-term benefits over lasting development.
Addressing safety concerns, Bommai remarked on the prevailing climate of fear for families regarding their loved ones' safety. He accused the current government of stagnation, claiming no progress has been made in the constituency over the last three years, and advocated for electing a trustworthy representative.
He appealed for support for BJP candidate Veeranna Charantimath, promising to express his gratitude personally if elected. Bommai also expressed optimism that by 2028, a government committed to the welfare of the poor, SCs, STs, farmers, and social justice would be established.
He mentioned the challenges he faced regarding the topic of internal reservation but reaffirmed his commitment to fighting for justice for marginalized communities.
Bommai expressed joy in meeting members of the Ambigara Chowdayya community, praising their resilience and hardworking nature. He likened them to sailors and fishermen who trust in their journey and future success.
Stressing the importance of education, he drew historical parallels to emphasize that knowledge is the key to empowerment in the modern world, urging the community to combine diligence with learning, allowing them to be givers rather than seekers.
He noted the community's long history of oppression, with the vachanas of Ambigara Chowdayya encapsulating their struggles and endurance, explaining why Chowdayya is celebrated as a true saint.
Reflecting on his unexpected rise to ministerial status, he shared how B.S. Yediyurappa entrusted him with responsibilities that allowed him to advocate for farmers. He expressed deep emotional ties to the cause, emphasizing the need for genuine connection in serving farmers, the underprivileged, SCs, STs, and land-dependent communities, and pledged to advocate sincerely for internal reservation matters.
Several prominent figures, including Lok Sabha MP Govind Karjol, MLCs N. Ravikumar and Hanumant Nirani, former MLAs and various leaders from the Ambigara community, were present at the event.
