Bommai Commends PM Modi's Courageous Step Towards 'One Nation, One Election'

Bengaluru, Dec 13 (NationPress) Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the courageous action to implement the One Nation, One Election system via a constitutional amendment. He condemned those who oppose the initiative, claiming they are against the country’s advancement.

During a media interaction in New Delhi, Bommai mentioned that the Union Cabinet, under PM Modi’s guidance, has given the green light for a constitutional amendment to establish this system. He indicated that it might be presented in the current parliamentary session.

"This is a vital move as frequent elections obstruct the nation’s growth," Bommai emphasized. "From cooperative organizations to panchayat elections, assembly elections, and Lok Sabha polls, the country is perpetually in election mode. This leads to enormous resource expenditure and hampers developmental efforts," he elaborated.

He pointed out that the One Nation, One Election framework would promote governance stability, which is essential for development. "No other nation experiences such frequent elections. This topic has been discussed for many years. The Prime Minister has now made a bold decision that will yield long-lasting positive results," he asserted.

Bommai also highlighted that the proposal is founded on the recommendations of a committee chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind. He called on citizens to embrace and endorse this initiative, claiming that those who oppose it are doing so for political motives and against the nation’s advancement.

"Prime Minister Modi deserves commendation for taking this bold step," he remarked.

In response to this development, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar alleged that the initiative aims to undermine regional parties.

Speaking in Vijayapura, Shivakumar stated, "This is a strategy to diminish smaller parties. They perceive regional parties like the Trinamool Congress, various Communist parties, and others in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh as gaining influence. They aim to obstruct this growth."

He further accused the BJP of pushing this agenda to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament. "Some state governments were elected recently, while others were elected two or three years ago. This decision is being advanced with a specific agenda," he charged.

Shivakumar reiterated that the Congress party would align with its national leadership's position on the issue, as outlined by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
