Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Puducherry, April 7 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a fierce critique against the BJP-led Central Government on Tuesday, asserting that Puducherry is being utilized as a "laboratory" for policies he deems harmful to the populace.
While addressing campaign rallies for candidates of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, Udhayanidhi Stalin contended that the BJP is progressively expanding its political influence in the Union Territory through indirect strategies.
He suggested that the party aims to tighten its grip on Puducherry, echoing its political tactics in Tamil Nadu.
Stalin pointed out that the BJP’s increasing presence in Puducherry is being bolstered by its partnership with the All India N.R. Congress.
He drew comparisons to Tamil Nadu, claiming that the BJP relies on the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, to broaden its influence in the state.
Udhayanidhi Stalin expressed concern that Puducherry, known for its social harmony, is now experiencing the emergence of divisive political rhetoric. "This is a region where the politics of hatred never found a foothold. Yet, today, we witness a calculated effort to transform that dynamic," he stated.
He also criticized significant policies from the Union government, such as the National Education Policy (NEP), claiming it could exacerbate social inequalities. He warned that such initiatives might have enduring effects on the region's educational and social frameworks.
Stalin emphasized the governance model of Tamil Nadu, asserting that under Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, the state has resisted the BJP's attempts to impose its ideological agenda. He praised the Dravidian model for fostering inclusive development and upholding social justice.
Challenging the Centre's "double-engine government" narrative, he argued that this concept has failed to produce tangible benefits in regions where it has been applied. In contrast, he noted that Tamil Nadu has sustained impressive economic growth, reporting figures exceeding 11 percent. He also highlighted Puducherry’s quest for statehood, accusing the Centre of consistently neglecting resolutions from the Assembly.
Calling on voters to support the alliance in the April 9 elections, Udhayanidhi urged the electorate to "safeguard the dignity and autonomy" of the Union Territory by rejecting the BJP’s governance framework.
