BJP's Sanju Verma Claims India Created 17.9 Crore Jobs Over the Past Decade

New Delhi, Jan 3 (NationPress) India has seen the addition of 17.9 crore jobs in the past ten years, according to Sanju Verma, an economist and national spokesperson for the BJP, who emphasized that “Modinomics is thriving and robust”.

In a conversation with IANS, Verma stated that 4.7 crore jobs were generated in India within the last year alone.

“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have added 17.9 crore jobs over the last decade,” she remarked, referencing figures from the Reserve Bank of India.

In comparison, Verma pointed out that the previous Congress government managed to create a mere 2.9 crore jobs between 2004 and 2014.

The BJP spokesperson highlighted that “the unemployment rate, which was 6 per cent in FY 2017-18, has significantly decreased to just 3.2 per cent now.”

“We have achieved record low unemployment figures, which is a major positive,” Verma remarked.

She also discussed the increase in India’s worker-population ratio (WPR) and the labor force participation rate (LFPR), which includes those actively employed as well as job seekers.

“The WPR was 46.8 per cent in FY18, and it has now risen to 58.2 per cent,” Verma noted.

Additionally, she stated, “The LFPR, which stood at 49.8 per cent in FY18, has now reached an impressive 60.1 per cent.”

The BJP spokesperson also emphasized gender participation in the workforce.

“For males, the LFPR increased from 78.5 to 78.8 per cent between July 2022 and June 2023,” she explained.

“For females, the LFPR is currently at the highest level ever recorded in post-independent India, rising from 37 per cent in July 2022 to 41.7 per cent in June 2023,” Verma highlighted.

Furthermore, Verma compared job creation across various sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, and services, under PM Modi's administration and the previous Congress-led government.

“The number of jobs in manufacturing has surged by 15 per cent under Narendra Modi,” she stated.

In contrast, “jobs in the manufacturing sector grew by only 6 per cent from 2004 to 2014 under Congress,” she added.

In the services sector, “jobs created under PM Modi's leadership saw a remarkable 36 per cent increase—10 per cent more than during the Congress government, which saw only a 25 per cent rise in jobs,” Verma explained.

“A 36 per cent growth in jobs within the services sector, which comprises over 58 per cent of our economy, speaks volumes about our positive trajectory, unquestionably thanks to Modinomics,” Verma told IANS.

Meanwhile, she mentioned that during the Congress-led UPA, the agricultural sector experienced a decline in job creation from 2004 to 2014.

“Jobs in agriculture saw a negative growth of 16 per cent, whereas today, the agriculture and allied sectors have witnessed a 19 per cent increase in job creation,” Verma concluded.
