Was a Woman's Body Discovered in a Septic Tank in Bhopal?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, Feb 12 (NationPress) On Thursday, authorities uncovered the decomposed remains of an unidentified woman stored in a tin box within a septic tank located in a residential area governed by the Nishatpura police station.
The discovery was made after the Nishatpura police were alerted in the evening about a box seen bobbing in the septic tank's water. A team quickly arrived on the scene and, with help from local residents, managed to recover the box.
Upon opening the tin box, law enforcement officials found the decomposed body of a woman inside. Initial evaluations indicate that the body was likely disposed of in the septic tank around three to four days prior. At the time of this report, the woman's identity remained unknown.
Since local community members could not recognize the victim, police suggested that the crime was likely committed elsewhere, with the body subsequently relocated to the septic tank. Authorities are actively working to determine the woman's identity.
Manoj Patwa, the in-charge officer at Nishatpura police station, confirmed that the body has been sent to Hamidia Hospital for a post-mortem, and a formal case has been registered.
“Our investigation will cover all possibilities, including checking with residents nearby and reviewing CCTV footage from the area,” stated Patwa.
The septic tank is situated in Housing Board Colony, a densely populated region of the city. Sources within the police noted that a locality known as Irani Dera, infamous for criminal activities, is in close proximity.
Importantly, Bhopal police recently undertook a significant search operation in the Nishatpura vicinity, especially around Irani Dera, late Tuesday night, detaining over 40 individuals, including women, in connection with various criminal cases across different states.
More than 400 police personnel, including nine Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), participated in this midnight operation.
Investigative efforts regarding this case are currently ongoing.
