Kolkata, April 22 (NationPress) The lifeless body of a woman with sealed lips was found inside a trolley bag that had been abandoned by the roadside in Baguihati, located in the northern outskirts of Kolkata on Tuesday.
Residents reported that a few locals noticed the trolley bag left at the roadside on Monday night, but they opted to ignore it.
However, a curious newspaper vendor, upon seeing the trolley bag still in the same spot on Tuesday morning, consulted a senior citizen. Together, they decided it was prudent to alert the local police.
Upon notification, police arrived at the scene. When they opened the trolley bag, they discovered the body of a young woman dressed in a salwar kurta, her lips sealed with brown tape.
The authorities retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
“The precise cause of death will be clarified once we have the final autopsy report. Preliminary indications suggest that the woman was murdered elsewhere, her body placed in the trolley bag, which was then discarded by the roadside. We have initiated an investigation to ascertain the identity of the woman,” stated an investigating official.
He further mentioned that they are reviewing CCTV footage for potential leads and are examining missing persons reports from various police stations.
In a related incident earlier this year, two women were apprehended at the banks of the River Ganges in Kumartuli, north Kolkata, while attempting to dispose of a trolley bag containing the headless and dismembered body of another woman.
The arrested duo, identified as Falguni Ghosh and Aarati Ghosh, were relatives of the victim, whose remains were identified as those of Sumita Ghosh.
