Kolkata, February 25 (NationPress) Two women were apprehended early Tuesday on the banks of the Ganges in Kolkata's Kumartuli while attempting to dispose of a trolley bag that contained the headless and dismembered body of a woman in the river.

The detained individuals, identified as Falguni Ghosh and Aarati Ghosh, are a mother and daughter duo.

The remains found inside the trolley bag are believed to belong to Sumita Ghosh, an elderly relative of the accused.

Both women are said to reside in Barasat, located in the North 24 Parganas district. According to a source from the local police, they arrived at Sealdah station via an early morning local train, bringing the trolley bag with them and subsequently hired a cab for transportation around the city.

According to the cab driver, the two women initially visited Princep Ghat, a well-known concrete bank of the Ganges in Kolkata. After spending some time there, the women requested to go to another ghat.

Police reports indicate that the pair then made their way to Kumartuli Ghat, another concrete bank along the river. It was there that they removed the trolley bag from the cab and attempted to drag it towards the edge of the concrete bank.

Suspicious of the women’s actions, morning walkers in the vicinity intervened. When questioned, the women claimed that the trolley bag contained the remains of their pet dog.

However, their story raised red flags, prompting the walkers to alert local authorities. Upon their arrival, police recovered the headless body of a woman, which had been dismembered into four parts.

The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the motives behind this gruesome act.
