Kolkata, Aug 11 (NationPress) The lifeless bodies of three females, including two minors, were discovered on the railway tracks near Suisa railway station of the Muri-Chandil branch of South Eastern Railway in Purulia district, West Bengal, an official reported on Monday.
The police stated that the bodies were noticed during the early hours of Monday by the driver of a freight train.
Upon spotting the bodies, he promptly halted the train.
Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel were notified and quickly arrived at the scene. They recovered the bodies and transported them to Deben Mahata Government Medical College and Hospital in Purulia town.
The authorities have yet to identify the deceased and are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Investigators are exploring whether the bodies were discarded on the tracks or if the individuals fell from a passenger train.
Purulia Superintendent of Police Avijit Banerjee arrived at the scene upon learning of the incident.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation and examining all possible angles. The cause of death will be confirmed once the post-mortem reports are available,” stated the police officer.
Sources suggest that this could potentially be a case of murder, with the women likely killed elsewhere and their bodies placed on the railway tracks to mislead authorities into thinking it was a suicide or train accident.
The police are taking the incident seriously, having deployed sniffer dogs to the location.
“What stands out is that all the bodies are female. This adds a significant dimension to the case. It is possible that the two minors belong to the same family. However, nothing definitive can be said at this moment as the identification process is ongoing,” noted a police source.
There is also a possibility that a murder occurred in the neighboring state of Jharkhand, with the bodies discarded in West Bengal, given that Purulia shares a border with Jharkhand.
