Bengaluru, March 18 (NationPress) Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP, Basavaraj Bommai, has accused the Congress of breaching the core principles of the Constitution by offering reservations to minorities in government contracts, thus inciting societal unrest and bolstering its electoral base.
During a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday, he asserted that the Karnataka government under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is misleading the Backward Classes. He cautioned, “The Congress will face serious consequences for this in the near future.”
According to Bommai, the state government has allocated 4 percent reservation to minorities in government contracts, which he deems unconstitutional. “We had abolished this provision, and it is currently pending in the Supreme Court. Despite being aware that the matter is before the Supreme Court, the government falsely asserts that they are granting reservations to Backward Classes, while in truth, they are providing 4 percent reservation to minorities, which is both unconstitutional and illegal,” Bommai stated.
He further highlighted that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar explicitly mentioned during the Constitution’s drafting that reservations should not be based on religion.
“The Congress is infringing upon Ambedkar’s foundational principles and the Constitution’s essential values by implementing such reservations,” he added.
Bommai also accused the Congress of previously fielding affluent candidates against Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to ensure his electoral defeat.
“Additionally, former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru campaigned against Ambedkar. Did Savarkar campaign against Ambedkar? No. It is widely recognized that the Congress played a significant role in Ambedkar’s defeat. They are now attempting to rewrite history to shield their party, but such moves are neither justified nor meaningful,” he remarked.
In response to queries about the controversy involving alleged encroachments by Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy cleared by the Karnataka government, Bommai mentioned that Kumaraswamy had already clarified his position. “Moreover, the current government is indulging in vindictive politics,” he remarked.
Addressing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s accusations against the RSS, Bommai stated that the organization was established on the foundation of service and emerged during British rule to advocate for the rights of marginalized communities.
“Siddaramaiah believes that attacking the RSS will reinforce his electoral base, which is why he continually makes allegations against it. The nation has come to understand what the RSS represents over the past 77-78 years. Even the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi praised the RSS, and senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee attended an RSS event and spoke there,” he asserted.
“Siddaramaiah is not a true Congress leader; he is an outsider. Those who join the party from outside feel the need to demonstrate their allegiance by making such recurrent statements. This is why he is utilizing the RSS as a means to strengthen his leadership. However, the public knows the true nature of the RSS,” Bommai concluded.
