Hubballi, Feb 28 (NationPress) BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai on Friday criticized Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his negative comments on the delimitation proposal put forth by the Centre, asserting that the CM is merely attempting to mask his own shortcomings.
While addressing the media in Hubballi, former Chief Minister Bommai expressed regret that Siddaramaiah is politicizing this crucial issue, which is detrimental to Karnataka.
"The process of delimitation necessitates a two-thirds majority in Parliament; it cannot be executed hastily. There exists a constitutionally mandated committee for this task, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already assured Parliament that no state will be treated unfairly. Nevertheless, Siddaramaiah is looking for faults to divert attention from his failures and is unjustly blaming the central government. Regrettably, as the CM, he is politicizing this matter, which is not in the best interest of the state," Bommai stated.
Drawing a stark comparison between the Congress and the UPA administration, Bommai remarked: "A nation progresses only when its citizens prosper. Under the Congress administration, the wealth of those in power increased, while the common man suffered. Since Modi took office, 25 crore individuals have been lifted above the poverty line."
"During the Congress governance, scarcely anyone paid an income tax of ₹1 crore. Currently, four lakh people are fulfilling this tax obligation. Both Indians and foreigners can witness India's growth. No other nation is experiencing GDP growth of 6.5 percent like India," Bommai asserted.
He alleged that Karnataka is nearing bankruptcy, with no substantial development occurring in the state.
Moreover, he claimed that the funds designated for SCs and STs have been misappropriated.
On Thursday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that conversations are already in progress with neighboring southern states to mount a coordinated effort against the "injustices" of the proposed delimitation process by the Union government, planning to launch a united movement with all affected states in the near future.
Siddaramaiah expressed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah's assurance that southern states will not be disadvantaged in the delimitation process is "not credible". His remarks seem designed to create confusion among the southern states.
He pointed out that various studies have assessed the implications of delimitation, indicating that if delimitation is based solely on the latest census (2021 or 2031), the number of Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka may reduce from 28 to 26. Similarly, Andhra Pradesh's seats could fall from 42 to 34, Kerala's from 20 to 12, and Tamil Nadu's from 39 to 31.
