Tumakuru (Karnataka), May 6 (NationPress) In a heart-wrenching incident, a five-year-old boy tragically lost his life due to electrocution while playing outside his home in Tumakuru district on Tuesday. The victim has been identified as Poshaka Shetty, the son of Chandraiah, a resident of Goraghatta village near Turuvekere town.
As per police reports, a live electric wire had detached and fallen onto the fence surrounding the house. While enjoying his playtime in the morning, Poshaka inadvertently came into contact with the fence and was electrocuted. He tragically succumbed to his injuries immediately.
Local community members have voiced their outrage towards the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM), accusing them of negligence and holding the company’s officials accountable for the boy's untimely death.
The Dandinashivara police have filed a case and initiated an investigation.
In a related incident, local residents protested on the streets and blocked a major road in the Chamarajpet area of Bengaluru on March 13, following the electrocution death of a woman named Selvi while attempting to turn on a motor for water.
Selvi was electrocuted around 5:30 a.m. in an area close to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) headquarters, where homes allegedly lack direct water connections. Instead, pipes lead from the main water supply, requiring residents to manually switch on motors to access water. Tragically, while trying to operate the motor, Selvi was electrocuted and lost her life.
On June 27, 2024, another heartbreaking event occurred when two auto drivers were electrocuted in Mangaluru city, Dakshina Kannada district. The deceased were identified as Devaraj Gowda and Raju.
According to police, the incident unfolded when one of the drivers was washing his auto behind Rosario School, and a live wire fell on him. A fellow driver, attempting to help, was also electrocuted, resulting in both fatalities on the spot.
In a separate tragic event, Soundarya, age 23, and her nine-month-old baby, Suvikasha, were fatally burned after stepping on a fallen electric wire while walking on the footpath near Hope Farm Junction on Whitefield Main Road, just 100 meters from the BESCOM office in Bengaluru on November 19, 2023.
