To conceal the contraband, she had ingested approximately 98 cocaine capsules.
The 26-year-old Brazilian arrived in Delhi from Sao Paulo via Paris and was subsequently arrested under Sections 21, 23, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
During the inquiry, the accused admitted to swallowing the drug capsules. She was transported to the hospital after officials identified a highly dangerous and covert method of drug smuggling. Following the extraction of the capsules from her stomach, the substance was confirmed to be cocaine.
Recently, the Customs Department has detained several foreign nationals attempting to smuggle cocaine and other illicit substances into India.
On February 7, another Brazilian woman was arrested at Delhi International Airport with approximately 802 grams of cocaine valued at Rs 12.03 crore, having swallowed 100 capsules containing the drug.
On the same day, a Kenyan man was also detained with 996 grams of cocaine after arriving in New Delhi from Addis Ababa. He had ingested 67 capsules, with the cocaine valued at Rs 14.94 crore.
In all these incidents, the smugglers concealed the drugs within their bodies to transport them into the country. Thanks to the rapid actions of IGI Airport Customs officials, around 2.66 kg of cocaine worth Rs 39.96 crore was intercepted before it could reach the market.
