BRS Protest Demands Urgent Release of Fee Reimbursement Funds
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 23 (NationPress) Members of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) organized a protest outside the Telangana Assembly on Monday, urging the prompt disbursement of fee reimbursement funds.
Prior to the day's sessions in both the Legislative Assembly and Council, BRS MLAs and MLCs assembled at the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial, Gun Park.
Holding placards aloft, the legislators from the leading Opposition party insisted that the government release the funds for outstanding fee reimbursements without delay.
Madhusudhana Chary, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, addressed the press, claiming that the Telangana government is allegedly jeopardizing the futures of students, similar to its treatment of various societal groups.
He pointed out that numerous students are left with no choice but to discontinue their education due to the government's failure to allocate fee reimbursement funds in a timely manner.
“We demand the immediate release of ₹12,000 crore in overdue fee reimbursement payments,” he stated.
Chary further criticized the government for its apparent lack of commitment to the welfare of students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Backward Classes.
He noted that K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) had continued the essential fee reimbursement program initially established by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. “While KCR laid a golden path for students, the current administration is making education inaccessible for underprivileged students. We call for the immediate and timely release of fee reimbursement funds,” he asserted.
The BRS lawmakers proceeded to march towards the Assembly building, carrying placards. However, security personnel intervened, instructing them to leave their placards outside.
When the legislators insisted on bringing the placards inside, the marshals forcibly took them away.
BRS submitted notices for adjournment motions in both Houses to discuss fee reimbursement, but the presiding officers dismissed these notices.
In the meantime, law enforcement has increased security around the Assembly due to the Opposition BJP's planned siege over various concerns.
The BJP is organizing this protest, citing the government's inability to fulfill six guarantees, the displacement of multiple families due to the Musi Riverfront development project, and other pressing issues.
