BRS Legislators Arrive at Telangana Assembly in Handcuffs as Protest Gesture

Hyderabad, Dec 17 (NationPress) Members of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) arrived at the Telangana Assembly on Tuesday, wearing black shirts and handcuffs to demonstrate their solidarity with the farmers apprehended due to the Lagacherla incident.
For the second consecutive day, the BRS members staged a protest against the recent handcuffing of a farmer who was transported to a hospital from Sangareddy Jail.
Clad in handcuffs and shirts, the BRS legislators entered the Assembly chanting slogans like 'Handcuffs to farmers. Shame. Shame'.
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao and senior leader T. Harish Rao were among those who took part in the demonstration, demanding the prompt release of all farmers.
BRS MLCs also participated in the Legislative Council protest, wearing black shirts. Led by Kavitha, the MLCs arrived at the Council shouting slogans and calling for justice for the farmers. They insisted on the immediate release of farmers and the withdrawal of charges against them, as well as an apology from the Congress government.
The BRS had previously protested on Monday regarding the alleged mistreatment of farmers linked to the Lagacherla incident.
Carrying placards and chanting slogans against the handcuffing of one of the detained farmers, the BRS legislators reached the Assembly building. However, they were barred from entering the premises with their placards.
The opposition party has been advocating for a discussion on this matter within the Legislature during the ongoing winter session.
A farmer detained in Sangareddy Jail was handcuffed when he was taken to the hospital after reporting chest pain on December 12.
The tribal farmer Hirya Naik was arrested due to his involvement in an attack on officials during a public hearing about land acquisition for a pharmaceutical cluster in Lagacherla village, located in Vikarabad district, last month.
In response to the handcuffing incident, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy ordered an investigation. On the same day, Sangareddy Central Prison Superintendent Santosh Roy and Jailer P. Sanjeeva Reddy were suspended.
