BSF begins handing over bodies of 2 Bangladeshi smugglers killed at Tripura border

The Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier has initiated the process of handing over the bodies of two suspected Bangladeshi smugglers killed in firing near the Zero Point along the India-Bangladesh border in Sepahijala district, Tripura, officials said on Saturday, 9 May. The deceased have been identified as Nabir Hussain (40) and Md. Mursalin (22), whose bodies are currently being held in a government hospital mortuary pending formal handover to Bangladeshi authorities.

How the Incident Unfolded

According to a senior police official, BSF personnel on routine patrol on Friday night spotted a group of Bangladeshi nationals allegedly attempting to smuggle fish fingerlings from the Indian side across the border. Troops challenged the group and issued repeated warnings to disperse.

The official stated that when the smugglers allegedly began pelting stones and bricks at the jawans, the situation escalated.
