BSF Intercepts Pakistani Drone Loaded with Narcotics at Jammu Border

Jammu, December 15, (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully intercepted a Pakistani drone that was carrying narcotics at the international border in the Arnia sector of Jammu on Sunday.

According to a statement, "On December 14, 2024, at approximately 2010 hours, BSF troops stationed in the Arnia sector thwarted a smuggling attempt, intercepting a Pakistani drone and recovering 495 grams of narcotic substance."

A spokesperson for the BSF confirmed on Sunday that they have seized a Pakistani drone loaded with 495 grams of high-quality narcotics.

“The quadcopter entered Indian territory from across the border and was captured near the Chinaz Border Outpost area in the Arnia sector of Jammu district late Saturday,” the BSF spokesperson reported.

The statement highlighted, "The unwavering vigilance and dedication of BSF Jammu personnel have once again thwarted the malicious plans of anti-national elements, demonstrating their steadfast commitment to national security."

In addition to narcotics, Pakistan has also been using drones to transport weapons across the border.

Recent encounters between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir have resulted in the elimination of numerous terrorists and their commanders, as Pakistan intensifies infiltration attempts at the Line of Control (LoC) and sends weapon consignments.

There have been multiple instances of weapon drops by drones from Pakistan near the international border intended for terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir.

The BSF has successfully recovered various caches of weapons in recent times, disrupting the plans of terrorists and their handlers on the other side of the border.

Just two days earlier, the IG of BSF Jammu frontier stated in a press conference that an effective anti-drone system has been established to manage the threat posed by drones used for drug and arms smuggling.

It is important to note that drones are utilized by handlers of terror groups across the border to deliver weapons and narcotics, which are then collected by over-ground workers (OGWs), sympathizers, or terrorists themselves, aiming to disturb peace in J&K.

The BSF has successfully thwarted most drone operations from across the border, and the army has also confiscated drones along the Line of Control in the past.

J&K has a lengthy 740 km Line of Control and over 1200 km international border with Pakistan.

While the army remains vigilant in preventing infiltration attempts at the LoC, terrorist activities are now spreading to other regions of Jammu and Kashmir that were previously relatively unaffected, such as the Chenab valley, Udhampur, and Kathua, which had been declared militancy-free.

The ongoing anti-terror operations in Kashmir have driven terrorists into the mountains, where they conceal themselves, waiting for suitable moments to launch attacks on security forces.

Analysts emphasize the need for a comprehensive strategy to tackle the rising militancy in Jammu, which involves enhanced intelligence gathering and improved coordination among security forces.

The series of terror attacks further underscores the urgency of reassessing and fortifying the security framework to guarantee the safety and stability of the region.
