Kolkata, Dec 18 (NationPress) The Calcutta High Court has officially dismissed the public interest litigation contesting the proposed establishment of the Babri Mosque in Beldanga, located in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal. This project was initiated by the suspended Trinamool Congress member, Humayun Kabir.
The mosque's foundation stone was laid on December 6. The new Babri Mosque in Beldanga is designed to mirror the original structure that was demolished in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, on December 6, 1992.
During the hearing of the litigation before the division bench, including Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Partha Sarathi Sen, the court remarked that the petition lacked any legal merit.
Furthermore, the bench dismissed the petitioner’s claim that Kabir commenced construction without obtaining necessary approvals from the district authorities. It noted that the land designated for the mosque is private property, making the challenge to the construction legally untenable.
The petitioner had argued that Kabir's declarations regarding the mosque and his inflammatory remarks could disrupt communal harmony within the state.
Following this announcement, the Trinamool Congress began to distance itself from Kabir, eventually leading to his suspension a few days before the foundation ceremony due to allegations of anti-party conduct.
Kabir has proclaimed that he will launch his own political party on December 22, revealing the names of its office bearers on that date.
He has also indicated that his new political entity intends to contest in over 100 Assembly constituencies across West Bengal, potentially aligning with Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Left Front, contingent upon their agreement.
