New Delhi, July 5 (NationPress) In a remarkable development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended Harsh Sharma on Friday, who had been evading capture for eight years in relation to a fraudulent housing loan scheme involving Punjab National Bank.
The CBI disclosed that the case was initiated on August 2, 2017, against Sharma and others, including the construction firm M/s Shree Balaji Hitech Construction Pvt. Ltd, for allegedly deceiving the public sector bank through a fraudulent housing loan operation. Sharma, untraceable since the registration of the FIR, was finally arrested after extensive efforts by the CBI.
According to a press statement from the CBI, "Investigations revealed that Harsh Sharma had engaged in a criminal conspiracy with the builder M/s Shree Balaji Hitech Construction Pvt Ltd and provided KYC documents that led to Punjab National Bank approving a housing loan for the builder."
"The accused was among the fictitious buyers of a flat, which was sold on paper to various bogus buyers to secure a loan from the bank," it continued.
The agency had submitted a chargesheet in this matter on March 19, 2024, to the Special Judicial Magistrate (CBI), Ghaziabad.
Sharma’s repeated absences from court led to the issuance of a non-bailable warrant against him. He was eventually located and arrested on Friday.
"After intensive efforts to find the accused, the CBI team executed a Non-Bailable Warrant this morning and apprehended the absconding suspect," the agency stated.
Sharma was presented before the Special Judicial Magistrate (CBI), Ghaziabad, who ordered him to remain in judicial custody until July 15, 2025.
The investigation into the broader conspiracy and the involvement of additional individuals is still in progress, according to the agency.
