As stated in a press release from the CBI, the incident was uncovered on Wednesday following a complaint lodged by the individual against these police officials.

The complainant reported that the accused officers had initially requested a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to avoid implicating him in a narcotics-related case (NDPS). However, after discussions, the amount was negotiated down to Rs 3 lakh.

Even with the reduced amount, the complainant approached the CBI investigators to disclose the situation.

To delve into the matter, the CBI orchestrated a sting operation. The two officers were caught in the act while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh from the complainant, who had consented to pay this amount in return for the officers' assurance to refrain from pursuing charges against him in the NDPS case.

The CBI effectively apprehended the accused at the crime scene. The bribe money was confiscated, and both officers were taken into custody for further inquiry, as per the press release issued by the agency on Thursday.

The investigation remains active to ascertain the full scope of the officers' involvement in the alleged unlawful activities, with the CBI examining all possibilities to ensure justice prevails.

The agency’s prompt action and successful operation underscore its dedication to combating corruption within law enforcement.

The CBI has confirmed that both the Head Constable and Constable from PS Sagarpur are facing severe bribery charges.
