CBI Requests Medical Board Formation for Accused in Bengal School Job Case

Kolkata, December 10 (NationPress) On Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a petition to a special court in Kolkata, asking for a directive to create a medical board to assess the health status of Sujay Krishna Bhadra, a principal accused in the significant cash-for-school-job scandal in West Bengal.
This request from the CBI came after an order from the Calcutta High Court’s division bench consisting of Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Gaurang Kanth, who earlier on the same day requested a medical report regarding Bhadra for further examination.
The medical report of Bhadra, who is currently receiving treatment at the Presidency Central Correctional Home hospital in Kolkata, is crucial as he has previously missed court dates citing medical reasons.
His physical attendance at the special court is vital for the CBI, especially since the Calcutta High Court’s single-judge bench, led by Justice Suvra Ghosh, granted him bail in cases registered against him by the ED in relation to the school-job scandal on December 6. The CBI aims to ensure that they can present Bhadra as arrested only after he has appeared in court.
On the same day, Bhadra was also unable to attend the special court virtually via video conferencing, again citing medical issues to justify his absence.
Subsequently, the CBI's legal counsel requested the special court to establish a medical board to evaluate Bhadra. The counsel suggested that the medical board could either assess Bhadra at the jail hospital or at another facility outside the correctional home.
On December 16, the CBI is scheduled to explain to the division bench of the Calcutta High Court the necessity of taking Bhadra into custody.
