West Bengal School Job Scandal: CBI Arrests Key Suspect

Kolkata, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially declared Sujay Krishna Bhadra, a central figure in the multi-crore cash-for-school-job scandal in West Bengal, as arrested on Tuesday and showcased him online during a session at a special court in Kolkata.
On December 6, a single-judge bench of the Calcutta Court granted conditional bail to Bhadra in a case filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is also conducting a parallel investigation into the school job scandal.
Following his bail granted by the ED, Bhadra sought anticipatory bail from a division bench of the Calcutta High Court, fearing his impending arrest by the CBI.
However, on December 16, the division bench comprising Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Gaurang Kanth denied his request for anticipatory bail as made by Bhadra's legal representative.
Previously, Bhadra had missed court appearances on three occasions, preventing the CBI from officially declaring his arrest, since an accused must be presented in court via a production warrant to be recognized as arrested.
Nevertheless, on Tuesday, the CBI ensured his online attendance, allowing the agency to finally report his arrest.
On Monday, the judge at the special court remarked significantly on Bhadra’s repeated absences from court.
“I will investigate how to guarantee his physical presence in court. Since the outset, the CBI has been requesting his custody. However, this was unachievable due to his failure to appear before the court. Nevertheless, the CBI cannot be held liable for the events of recent days. The court is monitoring all proceedings,” the judge of the special court asserted.
