Bail Granted to Sujay Krishna Bhadra in West Bengal School Job Scam by Calcutta HC

Kolkata, Dec 6 (NationPress) A single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court has granted bail to Sujay Krishna Bhadra, who is the principal suspect in the cash-for-school job scandal in West Bengal, under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is conducting a separate investigation into the school job scandal, attempted to present Bhadra as being arrested in the same case. However, this could not be achieved in a special court in Kolkata due to his health issues.
As the court granted bail to Bhadra in the ED case, it also imposed several conditions. Justice Ghosh emphasized that Bhadra must not try to tamper with or modify any evidence regarding the school job scandal. Additionally, he must refrain from attempting to influence any witnesses involved, as noted by the single-judge bench.
The court instructed Bhadra to surrender his passport to the investigative authorities, and he is also prohibited from leaving West Bengal without obtaining prior approval from the court.
Arrested by the ED last year in relation to the school job scandal, Bhadra has remained in judicial custody at the Presidency Central Correctional Home in South Kolkata.
Recently, the CBI filed a petition in a special court in Kolkata to classify him as arrested in the school job case. However, the special court judge remarked that Bhadra could not be recorded as arrested unless he was physically present in the court.
The CBI's attempt fell short as the correctional home authorities indicated that Bhadra's medical condition did not permit his attendance in court.
An additional hearing on this matter is set for Friday, and it remains to be seen if the CBI can eventually present him in court.
