CBI Solves 19-Year-Old Triple Murder Case in Kerala After Periya Convictions

Kochi, Jan 4 (NationPress) Just a day after achieving convictions in the 2019 Periya twin murder case, the CBI Chennai unit has successfully resolved a 19-year-old triple murder case, signifying a major breakthrough in a long-standing inquiry.
On Saturday, the CBI apprehended Dibil Kumar and Rajesh, the prime suspects in the murder of Ranjini, a 24-year-old woman, along with her 17-day-old twin daughters. Acting on an intelligence tip, the pair was captured in Puducherry, where they had been living with their families.
This case traces back to January 24, 2006, when Ranjini, an unmarried resident of Anchal in Kollam district, gave birth to her twin girls at a government hospital in the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram. Kumar, also from Anchal, was in a relationship with Ranjini but distanced himself upon learning of her pregnancy.
After giving birth, Ranjini sought assistance from the Kerala State Women’s Commission, which mandated a DNA test for the newborns. Soon after, Rajesh, a mutual friend, visited her at the hospital, offering to support her. He subsequently took Ranjini and her babies to a rented accommodation in Kollam.
Tragically, on February 8, 2006, Ranjini and her daughters were discovered dead in the rented premises. The local police initiated an investigation, which was later transferred to the Crime Branch. Following persistent appeals from Ranjini’s mother, the case was eventually handed over to the CBI.
Years later, the CBI Chennai unit revisited the case while examining unresolved files. Utilizing confidential information, investigators traced Kumar and Rajesh to Puducherry, where they were engaged in an interior decoration business. The duo had reportedly been evading justice since the murders, having left their military positions.
The CBI conducted surveillance on the suspects and took them into custody on Friday. They were subsequently transported to Kochi on Saturday.
As per CBI sources, the accused will be taken back to Kollam for evidence collection and further inquiries.
