New Delhi/Chennai, Jan 19 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has wrapped up the second round of inquiries with Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay regarding the Karur stampede incident, which tragically claimed the lives of 41 individuals during a political rally last year.

Sources reveal that Vijay was interrogated for approximately five and a half hours on Monday, marking a significant phase in this ongoing investigation. The unfortunate event transpired on September 27 in Karur, where a large crowd had gathered for a political rally led by actor-politician Vijay, resulting in chaos and a deadly stampede.

In response to public outcry and legal intervention, the Supreme Court instructed the CBI to assume control of the investigation to ensure a thorough and impartial review.

CBI officials are currently conducting the investigation from a temporary facility established in Karur. Nevertheless, individuals involved in the case are being called to the CBI headquarters in Delhi for more extensive questioning.

Vijay had previously been interrogated for over six hours on January 12, and this second session occurred on Monday.

According to insiders, CBI officials posed a series of critical questions to Vijay.

These inquiries reportedly included whether he observed the traffic congestion while addressing the audience from his vehicle, the reasons behind the delay of nearly seven hours in dispersing the crowd, the measures implemented to manage the traffic jam, and why the convoy continued to advance despite the congestion.

It is understood that Vijay addressed several questions while requesting time to respond to some and asking for documentary evidence for others.

After the questioning concluded in the evening, Vijay was seen leaving the CBI office and briefly stepping out of his vehicle to wave at supporters gathered outside, a gesture that quickly caught public attention.

Following this, TVK administrator Nirmal Kumar clarified that Vijay has not received any new summons after this latest round of questioning. He also refuted rumors regarding Vijay's potential arrest, urging the public not to heed speculation circulating on social media.

Kumar emphasized that the party would fully cooperate with the investigation.

Meanwhile, sources have indicated that the CBI is preparing to submit the charge sheet in the case to the Supreme Court during the second week of February, considering the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The charge sheet is anticipated to detail the accountability for the failures that contributed to one of the deadliest campaign-related disasters in recent years.
